Art in the East of Scotland
Colin Ruscoe was born in Coventry in 1951, came to Scotland in 1970 and has lived here ever since. While ostensibly studying geology at Dundee University, he gained every prize going with his photography.
Since the late 1970s Colin has been one of the leading artist photographers in Scotland, showing regularly in exhibitions alongside painters and sculptors. He was a stalwart of the Society of Scottish Artists, which first welcomed photographers to its ranks in 1984.
He has had numerous solo exhibitions in Scotland, and in 1996 took part in an important exchange exhibition with Ghent in Belgium.
He has work in public and private collections, including a body of work in the Navigator Foundation’s collection of 20th Century Scottish Photography held in Boston, USA.
Colin first visited Paris in 1980 and fell in love with France, which he has visited almost annually for the past 25 years. The life on the streets, full of charm and history, fascinates him along with the architecture and landscape.
In July 1989 he exhibited with Henri Cartier-Bresson in an exhibition at the Crawford Arts Centre which celebrated the bicentenary of the French Revolution.
