“My work is an amalgam of media and techniques. I use a combination of painted plaster, photographs, wax and acetate
transfers, mixing old and new techniques.
Inspired by my roots in North-East Scotland and my ties to the Shetland Islands, my subject matter includes the wild and
rugged coastline, contrasting with the tamed nature of the countryside.
The natural world and how it is affected by man or the natural element has for me been a very important part of my life
and of how to portray it.”
“My art history studies, together with travels in Italy and Spain have left a visual influence on my work.
The use of gold is a reference to the early Renaissance artwork indicating the immortality of the subject and the use of wax over layers of paint or photographs evokes a feeling of history and memory.
The use of fish and animals for me represents life and highlights the incongruity between the lives of the ancient animals and the modern style of the way they are treated.”
