Contemporary Art in the East of Scotland
Eugen Jarych studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art where he won the Ian Eadie prize for landscape
painting. He was awarded a summer residency at Hospitalfield House, Arbroath and a year long scholarship to
Krakow Academy of Art where he was able to explore further his Polish heritage which has affected his work
significantly.
His painting and printmaking reflect his love of the spiritual essence of nature in its interplay of moods, shades, light and movement. It draws the viewer deeply into the mystery, both physical and spiritual, seen and unseen of life's reflective memory. To Jarych, the elements of land, sea and sky in all their various moods from the dark storm to serene calmness filled with light can be seen to echo life's experiences.
Jarych has work in collections in Europe, America and Canada including the Scottish Arts Council and Angus Council.
He has undertaken over the years a large number of commisions in painting. He was employed as an illustrator for the
Cramond Heritage Trust and also commissioned to design and execute the illustrations for a book on Ossian, and a
mural for a school in Dundee.
He has come more recently to printmaking and worked for a number of years at Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre Print Studio where he still carries out his printmaking but now concentrates fully on producing his own work. A further development has been his giving masterclasses independently at Dunfermline Print Studio, one of only four in Scotland, where his enthusiasm and skills in monoprinting are valued.
Jarych exhibits regularly at a large number of group exhibitions both as an individual artist and as a member of
a long established professional group of artists called "Artists' Lunch." He has also had a number of solo
exhibitions. Galleries where he has exhibited include among others, Compass in Glasgow and Glasgow Print Studio,
Peacock Print Studio in Aberdeen, Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre Print Studio, The Stenton Gallery near Edinburgh
and Riverside Gallery in Stonehaven.
Jarych has also exhibited with the Royal Scottish Academy, Visual Arts Scotland, and Aberdeen Artists' Society.
